We have more in common than that which separates us. Universities are not separate from the physical and human communities in which they are situated, and must dissolve the idea of separation. We can start with the human and physical connections that already exist between our webs of community, and consciously encourage real-life real-people considerations in our pedagogy. Students yearn for this tangible, embedded reality, so such considerations will hopefully increase student enrollment and boost university finances. Low-time-commitment learning opportunities for community members could also greatly improve relations, connections, and funding.
